| A small room in a home designated as an area to remove shoes, jackets, coats and other outdoor wear, usually located near an entrance to the home. A mudroom may be lined with coat hooks, shelves, shoe racks, or cupboards and may even have a sink for washing hands. A room like this can be very convenient to keep dirt and mud from being tracked through the house, and gives a nice area to contain the clutter of shoes, school backpacks, and everything else that comes and goes from a home.
