| An unfinished basement is a hole dug into the ground and lined with cement walls that become the foundation of a house built above. The basement is left without insulation, framework, wallboard or sheetrock, or finished plumbing. Finishing a basement adds extra space to a home. Some are large enough to include bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, entertainment areas, etc., and some are just the size of a storage or laundry room. Completing an unfinished basement adds value to a home and increases to overall worth for reselling. Basements are put in many areas where the water table is low so there is little risk of flooding or mold and mildew damage.
